What would a local food lover do without the Winter Market? I have heard a significant number of complaints from folks about the quality of our winter market in the past, but I don't think any of them have been relevant this season. The first winter market of the year, on Dec. 3rd, was packed full of food: beets, turnips, greens, squash, potatoes, sweet potatoes, carrots, brussel sprouts, sugar snap peas, garlic, cabbage, bread, eggs...That's without counting the dried beans, steel cut oats, cornmeal, flour, or many jars of preserved/canned staples. I'm so impressed with our local growers, who continue to work hard throughout the year to do what they love and make it possible for us to eat food we trust all year long.
